2020 Website Trends and how I used them for our new IMC website

Another Monday Morning Website Tip by Marcus Rangel
Big text, gifs, large photos and “storybrand” conversational copy, it’s all part of how the web is going in 2020.
What’s great about these trends is websites are now truly adapting to using the entire screen and they are honestly starting to look like a print pieces. I feel that in 2020, the days of sites having 12 point font should be over. Let’s look at why.
Big text, no really big text is awesome!
We all know that your website visitors will only stay on your site for a casual glance (say 8 seconds). Knowing this, you have to have scannable headlines. I gave our site big (but short) headlines and minimal text below each headline. Why waste time to write text if no one is going to read it? You have to start approaching your site with bite size bits!
Gifs are in, have some fun!

Check your phone and I bet you get at least a few Gifs a week right? Why not have some fun and humanize your site with showing who you really are.
If you loop a gif, man, I almost guarantee you are going to have someone stop and watch it a few times. Heck, it might even bring a smile to their face!
Showcase your photos!

Let people get to know you and your team with showing them off! Being a web designer, I used a lot of our “portfolio” pieces as the imagery of our site, but when I did use photos they were big, and fun.
“Storybrand” conversational copy
If you haven’t read Donald Miller’s Storybrand book, buy this as soon as your done reading for $11 bucks. Once you do that, make sure the words on the screen of your site sound like you (conversational). Then, reduce, reuse, recycle? No, but keep trimming your text and show your site to other people to see how fast they scan it. That will make you trim it down!
This is really exciting, if you don’t want your site to be a dinosaur.
As a designer and business owner, these trends are really amazing to see and you think to yourself, why did I ever make sites with such small text???

About Marcus Rangel
I've been working with small businesses owners to craft not only beautiful custom websites, but clear, clever and concise messages to reach their prospects since 2005.
I officially hung up my "corporate cleats" to be an entrepreneur and small business owner in the summer of 2020. IMC, which started as a side hustle early in the mornings before the sun was even up in 2017, is what led me down this path as a business owner myself. I focus on helping other business owners continually stay in front of people & prospects with digital marketing, create websites that get leads with great engagement, and produce video content that are meant for the digital era we're in.
When I'm not creating, you can find me hanging out with my incredible family on our front lawn or on my OneWheel around the big city of Owasso, OK.

Read MoreIf today is January 1, 2023 how do you feel about your website? Well, it’s not really 2023 yet but what if it was? I worked recently with The Pennant restaurant team on reworking their messaging and home page “presentation.” It wasn’t because their first impression was bad, but a lot has changed since they opened their doors and I designed their site back in 2018. Here’s what we looked at and what could help you think through as you think about your business heading into the new year: I considered the Pennant’s site a refresh because it wasn’t throwing away everything we had done in the past, but rather refreshing the home page and a few other core pages they wanted to focus on.…
