Are you using the right photos for your website?
Let’s face it, people are on your site to see you and what your business offers. Photos are essential for a quality website, but here are some examples of what you should be using.
A great quality headshot
Like my friend Rick above from Sardis Events, this is a great example of a photo you should use. Notice I didn’t say glamour shot, but a high quality headshot to show who you are and often how you will appear to your clients in an everyday setting when they interact with you. Don’t take the suit and tie pic if you will never show up this way. This is who Rick is every time I interact with him.
Use real people
If you are a restaurant, show guests enjoying your space BUT avoid at all costs the super cheesy (you can spot these) fake smile photos. You know, the casinos that show everyone dressed in suits and ties looking like they just helped James Bond defeat 006. This goes for any business, show yourself as the guide to creating incredible experiences.
Use interesting shots
Not everyone who has a DSLR is a photographer, I’m just going to flat out say that. Your site should have detailed interesting shots that engage and build your brand when a prospect is on your website. People can tell if you cut corners (went on the cheap) on not using a professional to take your photos.
Have a photo gallery
Not every site needs this but if you are in the service industry you should be showing off your space, the experience, or a gallery of your work. You also must use these types of photos on your google listing which I’ll talk about in a later post.
The bottom line with photos is, don’t cut corners.
You should love your photos and be proud of them in that they represent who you are or what you are trying to sell when someone pulls up your site!

Big text, gifs, large photos and “storybrand” conversational copy, it’s all part of how the web is going in 2020. What’s great about these trends is websites are now truly adapting to using the entire screen and they are honestly starting to look like a print pieces.
