Email Marketing – Why it’s key to communicating right now & 3 big tips to do it well.

Another Monday Morning Website Tip by Marcus Rangel
In so many ways, what’s old has made a roar back in the way communication is happening right now with the ol’ situation we are in right now. People are calling people, there are actually people outside and going on trails (saw this yesterday it was amazing), and emails from CEO’s are through the roof – just check your inbox.
The key takeaways I’ve seen though in how those emails are coming across is literally right in front of us all with these 3 questions.
- Is it personal
- Does it sound like the rest of the noise right now
- Is the email effective
Let’s start with is your email personal?
Does your subject line start with “How we are handling the COVID-19 situation?” Then start again, you sound like the rest of the world. How about something like, “Top 3 ways to get in touch with our team right now.” That addresses that there is a situation but there is a solution. Or you could go with, “We’re in this together, a quick update.”
The other thing to think about is not using your standard info@ company email address when blasting out emails. Have it come directly from your email address and let people reply directly to you. This is super easy to change in Mail Chimp or whatever system you are in.
Does it sound like the rest of the noise right now?

Everyone is hearing all the negative out there today, they want to read something positive, something that you are doing that can help them, or just a note to show that you care. Not sure how you are coming across in this world right now, check out Donald Miller’s Instagram post on this which is just flat out amazing!
Is your email effective?
Using email is just the first step in communicating, but what’s inside really is what counts. Use videos in your email and don’t be afraid of it. People want to see and hear your voice and there’s no better way to do this than with video. I recommend Soapbox, it’s free and you can even share your screen if you need to. There’s simply no better way to communicate right now than with video which is why Zoom meetings have taken over the world right now and their servers crashed last week.
We will get through this, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, so it’s time to start talking and communicating like that!
Last but not least, if you need a laugh check out my video I made for a contest for a Onewheel… it’s my creation to give an example of how you can use your front lawn to #destroybordeom

About Marcus Rangel
I've been working with small businesses owners to craft not only beautiful custom websites, but clear, clever and concise messages to reach their prospects since 2005.
I officially hung up my "corporate cleats" to be an entrepreneur and small business owner in the summer of 2020. IMC, which started as a side hustle early in the mornings before the sun was even up in 2017, is what led me down this path as a business owner myself. I focus on helping other business owners continually stay in front of people & prospects with digital marketing, create websites that get leads with great engagement, and produce video content that are meant for the digital era we're in.
When I'm not creating, you can find me hanging out with my incredible family on our front lawn or on my OneWheel around the big city of Owasso, OK.

If you’ve taken the time to read your county’s or state’s guidelines for reopening this past week, did you read the entire document or scan it to find out exactly what you were looking for? I bet 95% of us scanned it, and I’ll tell you why. We don’t have time to read 10 pages of text, or at least we think we don’t. People are looking for headlines to grab their attention. If we find a headline, then we are looking for bullets to define the details of that headline. This is why it’s so important that we take these things into consideration, whether it’s your website, your email campaigns, or any PDF we put out digitally. Did you know that most people leave a website within 10 seconds? And…
Read MoreFacebook Ads, Google Ads and SEO may be where your head initially goes at when you think of spending money on online advertising. And although I would still recommend Google ads, there are 2 other strategies that are pretty standard if you were to ask me where to make sure they should head with spending money online: Retargeting and Email Marketing. Here’s why: Retargeting – bring people back. Did you know that those little ads that follow you around the internet asking you to come back to purchase that item you didn’t follow through with yet can be utilized on your site? That’s right, you don’t have to be selling those fresh new Jordan’s to get those ads to start working for your company for…
Read MoreI’ve been writing a lot about email marketing because it’s so essential right now, and because it keeps you in front of your audience. Your subject line will make or break your email campaign. Here’s wow to write a better one. It’s the headline to your email. It’s the reason someone should “open your letter,” yet so many people don’t follow these simple steps to make sure their emails get opened. To make this fun and entertaining, let’s act as if we were writing subject lines for the 2020 reboot of the show Seinfeld… this should happen anyways, right? Let me give you a few examples and see which one you are more likely to open: Example 1: NBC show scheduleExample 2: NBC fall update…
