Email Marketing – Why it’s key to communicating right now & 3 big tips to do it well.

Another Monday Morning Website Tip by Marcus Rangel

In so many ways, what’s old has made a roar back in the way communication is happening right now with the ol’ situation we are in right now. People are calling people, there are actually people outside and going on trails (saw this yesterday it was amazing), and emails from CEO’s are through the roof – just check your inbox.

The key takeaways I’ve seen though in how those emails are coming across is literally right in front of us all with these 3 questions.

  • Is it personal
  • Does it sound like the rest of the noise right now
  • Is the email effective

Let’s start with is your email personal?

Does your subject line start with “How we are handling the COVID-19 situation?” Then start again, you sound like the rest of the world. How about something like, “Top 3 ways to get in touch with our team right now.” That addresses that there is a situation but there is a solution. Or you could go with, “We’re in this together, a quick update.”

The other thing to think about is not using your standard info@ company email address when blasting out emails. Have it come directly from your email address and let people reply directly to you. This is super easy to change in Mail Chimp or whatever system you are in.

Does it sound like the rest of the noise right now?

Everyone is hearing all the negative out there today, they want to read something positive, something that you are doing that can help them, or just a note to show that you care. Not sure how you are coming across in this world right now, check out Donald Miller’s Instagram post on this which is just flat out amazing!

Is your email effective?

Using email is just the first step in communicating, but what’s inside really is what counts. Use videos in your email and don’t be afraid of it. People want to see and hear your voice and there’s no better way to do this than with video. I recommend Soapbox, it’s free and you can even share your screen if you need to. There’s simply no better way to communicate right now than with video which is why Zoom meetings have taken over the world right now and their servers crashed last week.

We will get through this, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, so it’s time to start talking and communicating like that!

Last but not least, if you need a laugh check out my video I made for a contest for a Onewheel… it’s my creation to give an example of how you can use your front lawn to #destroybordeom

About Marcus Rangel

I've been working with small businesses owners to craft not only beautiful custom websites, but clear, clever and concise messages to reach their prospects since 2005.

I officially hung up my "corporate cleats" to be an entrepreneur and small business owner in the summer of 2020. IMC, which started as a side hustle early in the mornings before the sun was even up in 2017, is what led me down this path as a business owner myself. I focus on helping other business owners continually stay in front of people & prospects with digital marketing, create websites that get leads with great engagement, and produce video content that are meant for the digital era we're in.

When I'm not creating, you can find me hanging out with my incredible family on our front lawn or on my OneWheel around the big city of Owasso, OK.

What data should you look at with email marketing? Here’s the top 3.

With most of the country stuck at home and not able to go out they are turning to their phones and computers more and more… just look at your own screen time report and I bet you see an uptick (you may be a bit shocked like Chris Pratt in Parks and Rec). Here’s the 3 key stats to look at with your email marketing. Your email frequency. This actually isn’t a stat that your system is probably going to generate but if you just look at the dates to see how often you are sending emails out you should at least aim for once a week right now. If you are driving people to a webinar or offer and it’s timely stuff, aim for…

Video marketing is essential right now to email marketing – 3 ways to do it right.

Not seeing your clients or prospects in person can really hinder your business especially in a time like this. But there is good news! You can easily put your smiling face on video just as easy as Kramer brightened the room on every episode of Seinfeld (yes I’ve been watching this lately and loving every minute of it)! Here’s 3 simple ways to do it right. #1. Be genuine and don’t sound like a robot. You may have to practice and fail 100 times but in order to come across like your normal self I would recommend just having bullet points in your head of what you want to cover. If your read a teleprompter people will know because you will perfect everything you are…

Where should your call to action be on your website?

Most businesses almost hide what they want people to do on their site. If you knew someone was on your site for 1 minute and 38 seconds would you have your site designed differently? (By the way, that is the averages I typically see when diving into google analytics). There is an art to making a quality design paired up with a call to action. Too cheesy and you might look cheap, too discreet and they’ll miss it. The key is making sure your call to action is at least visible on the top fold of your website on a desktop or a phone. You could also have an item of value be your secondary call to action of the top fold as well.  Now…
