How much should you spend on a website redesign?

Now that it’s 2022, you may be thinking about that website of yours. It’s kind of like a house once you have one for a while… you know, you love it once you get it, but then after a few years it may be time to make some upgrades or an entire makeover.
As Cuba Gooding Junior would famously say in the movie Jerry McGuire, “SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!” is probably what you expect when you are thinking of a new website redesign for your business, right?
Even if you google, “website redesign cost,” you’ll see one of the first answers is between $15K-$30K, and on up.
I’m not saying some sites shouldn’t cost that much, but here’s several questions below on what you should ask before you start on that website project (and yes, $30K on a website is really expensive in my opinion).
How many pages is my website going to be?
This is the first question I ask everyone before I start on a project for them. A website with 5 pages is a different price than a site with 30 pages, and it should be that way. I would also ask if you are going to have 30 pages, why would you want that many pages in the first place? But that’s another story for another day…
Do you trust the person that’s redesigning your website?
If you have someone you can trust and you don’t plan on having rounds and rounds of revisions, this should save you money in the long run. I’ve found that people that trust me and know that I have their best interest in making their site work for them, well they don’t typically have that many rounds of revisions, if any at all. So finding someone you can trust is key to your website redesign process going smoothly.
What is your budget for your website?
Think of everything you’re going to want in your brand new website and remember, if you are going to spend your time and money on a new website, adding the bells and whistles is something you should consider.
Here’s what you should think about adding to your website to make it the best it could be: Making sure it’s a custom site (your business isn’t like someone else’s which is why your site should be unique to you, new photos (nothing says more than great photos on your site featuring YOU), a new upgraded logo, content written that sounds like you, good SEO work, a blog, and 1-2 videos to really tell your story as the guide for your service you offer.
Justifying the total cost
Well this should go hand in hand with the experience and proof of the company that you are having do your new site. Make sure to always look at their gallery of work and testimonials, just like if you were to remodel your home.
