Quick tips on how to come up with a good tagline for a small business

Can you think of some memorable taglines from a small business? One of my all time favorite comes from a small town in Kansas that we drive through on our way to Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s so good that I even took a picture so it will become instantly memorable for you as well.
Berts Tavern – We only look expensive.

Why do Anna and I laugh every single time we drive by this “fine” establishment? Because the tagline is so priceless! It’s such a perfect use of knowing how this statement is a polar opposite of what you would expect to see from a place that looks like a shack… and yet this place has a 4.7 rating on Facebook and Google!
Clearly they have embraced their appearance and made something so memorable I wish more businesses would take note of making something clever to remember.
Here’s 2 quick tips on how to come up with a good tagline, maybe even as good as Berts!
- Don’t overthink it, oftentimes the first thing that makes you laugh or sounds right is what you should go with. When we came up with the tagline “Midwest Tough” for a t-shirt for Advisors Excel several years ago it was catchy, fun, and tied to the roots of the location of the company.
- Go with something memorable. Send your tagline ideas to a few people outside your walls and see what they think is the most memorable, not the best in their mind.
A few other great tagline examples.
- Sardis Events – Your best event ever is about to happen
- Builder Bee’s – We’re idea builders.
- IMC – We make websites, the kind people really like

About Marcus Rangel
I've been working with small businesses owners to craft not only beautiful custom websites, but clear, clever and concise messages to reach their prospects since 2005.
I officially hung up my "corporate cleats" to be an entrepreneur and small business owner in the summer of 2020. IMC, which started as a side hustle early in the mornings before the sun was even up in 2017, is what led me down this path as a business owner myself. I focus on helping other business owners continually stay in front of people & prospects with digital marketing, create websites that get leads with great engagement, and produce video content that are meant for the digital era we're in.
When I'm not creating, you can find me hanging out with my incredible family on our front lawn or on my OneWheel around the big city of Topeka, KS.

We’re going to look at those 4 key areas that make a great Tulsa web design below.
How can you tell if your website is successful a year from now? It’s the same way I’m measuring if I can do more pushups than my 6 year old son… who has set the bar of 800 push ups in one day, no kidding. The key is keeping your scorecard of your website stats in front of you and your team every month. Don’t overthink this, there’s only a few things that you should…
