Sell value or services?
Another Monday Morning Website Tip by Marcus Rangel
I feel when you are so close to your business you have to be willing to ask the tough questions to people you trust that want you to succeed. Before I went all in with IMC I asked a few people what they thought I should really sell when I would promote my business. The answers I got were like gold to me.
What I found was that I wasn’t going to be selling a service (a website, a video, or email marketing), I was actually going to need to talk about the value I would provide first and then the service second. There are lots, and lots, and lots of people that do what I do and probably what you do. The difference you provide is not the actual service you do, but the value you will be to that person or business that is going to work with you.
What every business relationship comes down to is trust.
Yes people ultimately care about the service that you provide but the value that they see in you and what you provide is a million times more important than that actual service.
Here are several ways to position the value on your website.
- Gather and put testimonials on every page of your website.
- How are you different than another business? List that value as a big bold headline on your home page or about us page.
- Create a video of you talking about how you earn trust with your clients.
- Look at your website page by page and think of the last few talks you’ve had with potential clients. Is what you are selling with the value you provide reflected on your site after you look it over?
Start with value, get the interest from your prospects on your site, then end with the sales for the service you provide.
About Marcus Rangel
I've been working with small businesses owners to craft not only beautiful custom websites, but clear, clever and concise messages to reach their prospects since 2005.
I officially hung up my "corporate cleats" to be an entrepreneur and small business owner in the summer of 2020. IMC, which started as a side hustle early in the mornings before the sun was even up in 2017, is what led me down this path as a business owner myself. I focus on helping other business owners continually stay in front of people & prospects with digital marketing, create websites that get leads with great engagement, and produce video content that are meant for the digital era we're in.
When I'm not creating, you can find me hanging out with my incredible family on our front lawn or on my OneWheel around the big city of Owasso, OK.
Does your website need help?
Using the storybrand method by Donald Miller for a brand video really transforms the engagement of a video. If you’ve ready any of the storybrand books, you know how important being the guide is. I’ve worked with several small businesses to help tell their story through video using the storybrand framework method. Using this method is a game changer because it truly positions the customer as the hero, and the brand or business as the guide. Here’s my favorite storybrand video examples: Erica Kay Design – An interior designer based in Kansas City, MO. NextGen Cattle Co – A cattle company in the Flint Hills of Kansas. Compass Retirement – A financial advisor in Dallas, Texas.Read More

How can you tell if your website is successful a year from now? It’s the same way I’m measuring if I can do more pushups than my 6 year old son… who has set the bar of 800 push ups in one day, no kidding. The key is keeping your scorecard of your website stats in front of you and your team every month. Don’t overthink this, there’s only a few things that you should measure monthly with your website and they are: The key to do this is it training you to focus your attention to your website first of all, and then by using that attention to measure if your website is doing what you want, or if it could use a quick…Read More
