What happens or should happen after someone fills out a form on your website?

The KC Royals had just one the World Series… finally. They have hours, days in fact of footage to get you hyped about the next season and have everyone ready to buy next years season tickets. As a creative team, we had decided to buy season tickets as giveaways to our team and the credit card was in my hands. I guess I was expecting something magical when I clicked the “buy now” button to complete an order of an entire season – a message from Dayton Moore, a highlight reel of last season, a photo of them holding the trophy from last year, a countdown timer to opening day… something.
And what came up after I clicked buy? A simple, boring, thanks for your purchase template lingo came up, and that’s when it clicked.
There is an amazing opportunity every time a form is filled out on your website to create an amazing experience.
I’ll admit that this is one of those things that takes time to think through and to do it right, you probably should have a video waiting for someone when they fill out a form. At the very least you should have the copy say exactly what someone should expect after the form is filled out. If you are going to contact them within 24 hours, put it on there.
I’ve even seen great results in the past putting a bonus offer on the “Thank You” page up-selling something especially if you got someone to fill out a form with a soft selling item or some sort of free offer.
The main thing is, you should think through how your customer experience is more than just the call to action itself.
Now, go to your site, fill out a form and see if you think you are creating an amazing customer experience!
